I will TELL you A ‘tell’ in poker is related to the manner and physical actions of a player after looking at his hand. Obviously this term has little meaning in online poker, but CAN be used by a unique change in betting habits of a player that you have observed after playing a few hands with him/her at the table. EXAMPLES ARE CLEARER Lets say a player at the table has folded the last couple of hands and you notice a slight difference in his manner on this next hand (sitting up straight, grabbing at chips before it is time to bet, eyes looking down only, licking his lips, grabbing his chin, etc). These behavioral changes are usually subtle, but they are there. they are TELLING you something is different about this hand and to beware. How about the other way? You notice that on this hand he/she shrugs a little or lets out a tiny gasp of despair or tilts their head differently than the usual way he/she reacts. This could be telling you that the hand is not a good one for them and you can act accordingly. For online games you must rely on betting habits. If a player is playing tight and on the next hand he/she come in with a larger than normal bet (for them) this could be telling you that they have a decent playing hand. Beware! Most players who have been ‘around’ a while learn how to fake tells to through you off. Just Don’t Do It Your best strategy is: put little stock in tells. You will be much better off using the most important things about the game. POSITION, PATIENCE, CHIP STACK SIZE, STAGING and INFORMATION . As you become a better player, I think tells can help a lot. For beginners, I would say tells are often misread.
The idea the acting weak means strong and acting strong means weak usually holds true among mid-level players.
