What is ‘Card Dead’? Simply put, ‘card dead’ is those times (and they occur more often than we like) when your pocket card (hole cards) are not really playable. Examples would be (4,3os), (9,4),(8,3) etc. When you are card dead, it seems like it will never end. The odds of having a playable hand most of the time is close to Zero. Don’t expect it and don’t let it put you on tilt. The Wrong Thought What is the most prevalent thought for beginners and more advanced players alike? Is goes something like ‘I have not played a hand in 11 rounds. I have to play SOMETHING’! Don’t succumb to this thinking. Remember, PATIENCE. If you do play ‘something’ and get raised, you look like a fool when you fold. This tells the other players that you will play anything. What to do WAIT! The cards will change. This is the time to concentrate on POSITION. Even with bad cards if you are in position, there is a chance to pick up the blinds. Example: You are on the button and you find that the 4 players remaining in the hand have all limped in. A raise at this time would be in order. The other players are probably sitting on weak hands as well and will fold to your raise. At the button is the time to bluff. Be prepared to continue with the bluff if you are called. If you don’t, Your weakness, again, will be evident. We have all been there I have played entire tournaments where my cards have looked like someone has fed me these cards on purpose, (8,2) was one of my better hands AND a face card was out of the question. Yes, I lost those tournaments. Skill The skill in the game is learning and remembering the most important rules of INFORMATION, PATIENCE and POSITION. To Be a Winner You will not win every time. You will win more than you lose if you follow our tips and strategy. Being a winner is about the MONEY.
