Patrick Karschamroon overcame seasoned poker pros Gavin Griffin and “Miami” John Cernuto to win the 2010 California State Championship this weekend.

It was just the second tournament victory for the 28-year-old pro from Los Angeles.

“I’ve been playing poker with my family since I was seven years old,” said Karschamroon after winning. “I love what I do. For me poker is the greatest job in the world.”

Karschamroon outlasted 175 players to win the $3,085 main event of the 2010 California State Championship. He took home $162,970 for his efforts.

Griffin, who was the first player to win a WPT, EPT and WSOP title, held the chip lead for much of the final table and appeared destined to add another victory to his results. Instead Griffin fell out of contention in third for $56,020.

Long-time poker veteran Cernuto came in fourth place for $40,740.

“Miami John and Gavin are formidable opponents, and the final nine also included several stellar Internet poker players,” said tournament director Matt Savage.

“Congratulations to Patrick Karschamroon on claiming the title of Cal State Champion in convincing style at one of the Commerce Casino’s showcase events.”

The tournament marked the end of the three-week long series at the Commerce, which awarded over $1 million prize money.
