Holland has a monopoly running involving Internet gambling, but that is something that should soon change, according to a Justice Ministry Commission. The Commission suggested that online poker should be opened up to several companies.

Online poker is the most popular form of Internet gambling in the world today. Despite its popularity, poker is still seen as something that is harmful in some countries. Anti-online gaming laws have made it difficult for players in big markets such as the US.

In recent years, however, strides have been made towards opening up the Internet for all gamblers. US lawmakers are currently contemplating new legislation that would allow company’s to become licensed and offer online casino gambling. It is a day that many Americans have been waiting decades for.

In Holland, the current system in which only one online gambling site exists, is not working. The Commission revealed as much when they sent their recommendations. The main focus is that foreign company’s are already providing services to Dutch gamblers.

The Commission stated that in order to block outside Internet gaming companies from accepting Dutch players, the government would have to order ISP’s to block access to the foreign sites. The alternative would be to license online poker sites.

Online poker was the only form of Internet gambling recommended by the Commission. Other forms, such as sports betting, bingo, and casino games, should not be legalized. The Commission compared the idea of bringing in outside companies to the one the country used when dealing with slot machines.
