The future of the online poker reality series called “2 months, 2 million” seems bleak as the cable station G4 has chosen not to renew it. It is unclear whether or not another station will pick it up and breathe some much needed life into it, but with the statistics it garnered during the previous season, this seems highly unlikely.

A Show that’s simply too specific

While 2 Months, $2 Million was a show that poker fans enjoyed immensely, most of the world could not, for the life of them, truly get into it. To begin with, it had a very good concept. Basically, it was about four online poker players who would endeavor to earn $2 million dollars collectively by the end of two months. The first season featured Dani Stern, Brian Roberts, and Jay Rosenkrantz, and Emil Patel. They worked together to reach their goal of 2 million but ultimately fell short – very short. Together, they only managed to earn $676,000. However, the show also incorporated quite a bit of drama, with all the players experiencing various highs and lows during the course of the season. They rented a spiffy house in Vegas for the duration of season 1, adding to the ‘poker’ feel. Poker players were able to relate to their hardships brilliantly and thus watched the show avidly. The rest of the world, however, found it painfully dull. They just could not relate. Thus, G4 found it prudent to not renew the series. The show had lots of potential and G4 even said that it fit their network perfectly and was fitted to their target demographic. However, though it was certainly popular when it first aired, its success only lasted for 3 weeks. By the third week, ratings took a turn for the worse, and the show never recovered after that.

Don’t give up just yet

However, just because G4 won’t be renewing it, it does not mean that all hope for this poker show is lost. The members of the cast are still discussing their options. Jay “Krantz” Rozenkrantz, for one, said that they learned a lot from Season 1 and would certainly apply these things in season 2. They have a lot of ideas on how to improve the show, now that they “know what people like about it and what they don’t”. One thing, particularly, is the goal. 2 Million is a bit too much, even for 4 people, and the fact that they were unable to achieve even half of their aim was simply disappointing. Changing the 2 million to 1 million would, no doubt, be one of the first goals.
