Sitngo – In Poker Tournaments PATIENCE Is Required!

Patience, Patience, Chance & More Patience

Ten days ago, I was doing just great at the Sit N GO single table tournaments. I was cashing over 78% of the time. Life was great!  But I’ve been playing long enough to know that this scenario can not last forever.

On Friday I started a 10 player single table sit n go tournament with a good attitude and ready to play.  My first hand was nine two (9,2), not  unusual and since I was out of position, I quickly folded.  The next hand, not much better ten four (10,4), which led to the same conclusion, I folded.  The rounds went on and I realized that 8 hands had gone by and I still had not seen a face card!

Finally, I got a hand of queen eight (Q8), by now this looked pretty good but my years of poker experience took over and I realized that this was just another folding hand.

Gather Information

As I am folding these hands, it does allow me time to watch the action and gain information on the rest of the field.  I’m learning the tight players, the loose players and the ones who are on a suicide mission.

Now we are in round thirteen and I still have not played a hand!  Patience is a tough strategy about now.  But I note that three players are out and one has only two blinds left.

In round fourteen I hit an ace queen (AQ) AND I am in good position.  The blinds are at 75/150 so I pumped in 450.  My tight play paid off as I watched the other players ALL fold.

My next hand was a six two (6,2), back to folding!  And another dose of patience.

By the end of the tournament, I had played exactly 6 hands! and I cashed, in third place.

If you’re gonna make money PATIENCE must be part of your strategy.

I have played for hours, days! with a profusion of bad hands.  The poker gods were against me.  This happens to us all and you can NOT buy your way out!

a Sit N Go tournament is a positional game that requires PATIENCE.  It is the norm that you will play only 20% (approx.) of the hands you are dealt.
